We've been fondling yarn again (cause that's what we do...) and appreciating the lovely nuances of each of our base weights - there are 12 - the loft, the shimmer, the structure, and the drape of each type of yarn blend and construction. We love them ALL, and they all have their own personalities. Over the next 12 months, we are going to be featuring one of our bases a month in a blog post; showcasing it's individualities and strengths.
So, here we go:
Selky
This is a sumptuous Alpaca/Merino/Silk blend (40%/40%/20%) in a singly ply DK. It feels like butter on your needles soft, smooth and delightful. The first time I cast on with this yarn I got to the end of the project really quickly and though about frogging just so I could keep knitting with it! The finished items are just as addictive. The merino gives the alpaca and silk just enough structure to keep your finished item from being too drapey (it drapes just enough!). The Silk gives the single additional strength, I have a cowl from two winters ago that still looks great and I wear it all the time. The Alpaca gives the whole yarn soft warm loft. Perfect cowl and shawl knitting, or snuggly fingerless gloves. The colors on this base yarn are more muted and soft.
